Hunt Monsters
Hunting Monsters
Small Monsters
- Tap small monster that is within your accessible range
- Slay the monster with the weapon/armor you had equipped before tapping
Note
- Equipment cannot be changed after tapping a small monster.
Large Monsters
- Tap large monster that is within your accessible range
- In the hunt preparation screen, you can change your weapon/armor
- Once ready, tap “Solo hunt” or “Hunt with nearby hunters”
Note
- The strength of monsters that appear (★) will increase as you progress in the Prologue Story/Pre-Season Story.
You can hunt monsters you encountered while moving around with the app open at a later time.
Once a large monster enters your accessible range, you can hunt it as long as it remains within a certain range, even after it leaves your access circle.
Similarly, if an upcoming Hunt-a-thons or Elder Dragon Interception point comes within your accessible range at any point, you can still participate when the event begins, even if they are no longer within your access circle.
- You can participate in that location until the corresponding Hunt-a-thon or Elder Dragon Interception ends.
- You cannot gather materials outside of your accessible range. (Gathering is only possible within your accessible range.)
- You can use an Ultra Hunting Ticket to rechallenge Hunt-a-thons and Elder Dragon Interceptions that can be joined from outside your accessible range.
Disclaimers
- Monsters may disappear due to their hourly respawn cycle or the progression of Story Quests.
- Monsters that enter your accessible range while you are moving at high speeds are excluded.
- Monsters that enter your accessible range but do not appear on the field—for example, because you are currently hunting them—are also excluded.
- There is a limit to the number of monsters you can hunt later. This limit is subject to change.
Marking with Paintballs (Hunter Rank ≥ 5)
You can use Paintballs to mark large monsters encountered in the field and hunt them again at a later time. There are two ways to mark a monster:
1. Palico Paintballs
After fulfilling certain conditions, your Palico can use Palico Paintballs (blue-colored) to automatically mark monsters for you.
2. Mark it yourself
You can use Paintballs (pink-colored) to mark monsters yourself. Paintballs can be purchased from the shop with Gems, and may also be earned as a reward for increasing your Hunter Rank.
- Tap large monster in the field
- Tap the Paintball icon displayed to the upper-right of “Solo hunt”
- Tap “Use”
*There is a limit to the number of times you can challenge a monster marked with a Paintball. (As of September 2024, the limit is 3 times. This is subject to change without notice.)
*Your remaining attempts will decrease if you fail to defeat the monster or if it escapes during the hunt.
*There is a limit to the number of monsters you can register on the Paintball List. The limit is the combined total of Palico Paintballs and regular Paintballs. If the limit is reached, you cannot mark any new monsters.
*Even if you have Palico Paintballs remaining, your Palico will stop marking monsters once the limit is reached.
Hunting Marked Monsters
- Tap the “Paintball” button on the main screen
- Tap “Hunt” next to the marked monster
- (If necessary) Check and adjust your equipment
- Tap either “Solo hunt,” “Invite Friends,” or “QR Code”
Slaying a monster will net you Basic Rewards, as well as Broken Part Rewards if you broke the monster’s body parts.
- The materials earned are random.
- The contents of the rewards are unaffected by your hunt completion time.
- There are no items that can boost the chance of certain rewards appearing.
In addition, the materials you can obtain and their drop rates may vary depending on the monster’s ★ rating and the body parts you break.
